"The long duet was freely developed – there was many a nod and mutual glance – and the pianist's tricks and fancies sat well over chattering tablas, brushed snare and full-on drum kit rock. There were set-piece endings, synchronised stabs and a highlight vocal duet with Gurtu scatting tabla rhythms to Hamasyan's human beatbox pulse – lines were swapped, argued over and finally brought to heel." Tigran remixes with LV for Gilles Peterson

Trilok Gurtu – Keynote Speaker, Leeds Conference

Trilok Gurtu has been announced as Keynote Speaker at the 2012 Leeds International Jazz Education Conference, Leeds College of Music on 29 March. The Conference will focus on Jazz Practice in the 21st Century and includes delegates from around the world participating in presentations, performances, workshops and discussion. Trilok appears at L'Arsenal, Namur on Feb 29, in cooperation with N8Jazz, University of Namur and FUCID, a non-profit association working with students to bring a sensitivity to the culture and reality of countries predominantly in the Southern hemisphere.

At the University on the 28th, Trilok will meet with students from India and Belgium to talk about his music, the meaning of his work and the message he wants to tell through it.

A song of yearning and hope and praise

With a firm yet delicate touch….. Tigran plays what he says is "simply one of the most beautiful melodies I have ever heard". He's referring to the Armenian folk song "Mother, Where Are You?" which features on his recent release 'A Fable'. The song has also been recorded with the stunning soprano Gayane Movsisyan on his newly released EP 'EP No. 1' (Universal Classics/Verve).
